Thursday 21 June The Tindall Foundation hosted a meeting of Youth Connections Across Auckland, a Tindall Foundation funded Youth Employment initiative. The meeting was attended by representatives of Auckland Council and the eight Local Boards which have committed to this initiative. They reported back on early-stage progress on developing their local schemes to support young people with the transition from school to employment.
The meeting was well attended with The Tindall Foundation's small offices almost bursting at the seams. A key attraction was the opportunity to hear from Dale Williams, Mayor of Otorohanga and National Chair of The Mayors' Taskforce for Jobs. Dale shared the experiences of Otorohanga and other communities round the country, which have been extremely successful in linking young people to local jobs. Otorohanga has developed a suite of programmes which work with young people, the employers and the community to help young people to get work. His presentation provided practical examples of what works to get employers and the local community fully behind their young people.
