Volunteering is one of the main ways that New Zealanders express their generosity. From fire brigades to marae cooking, volunteers are vital to many of the services we take for granted but would be uneconomic to provide in user-pays form, as well as being essential elements of healthy social capital. Local Volunteer Centres and Volunteering New Zealand (the national body) are set up to provide promotion, linking and matching services between volunteers and agencies.
The Foundation can best encourage recognition of and participation by volunteers through support for national associations on particular projects to achieve these aims, and by encouraging Funding Managers to prioritise groups using volunteers when distributing TTF funds.
Funding for national initiatives can be applied for direct to the Foundation through online application.
