Research & Education

Strategy Outline

The Community Sector (i.e. not private or government) is limited by a lack of knowledge of itself compared to other sectors of the economy.  Similarly, specific research, education and training programmes are scarce compared to those available to business and other sectors.  They tend to focus on the particular causes of clients (e.g. poverty and homelessness) rather than the sector itself.  Consequently, the sector has difficulty justifying its own needs and policy changes, and identifying, developing and sharing best practice.

The Foundation can help by supporting a limited range of targeted robust practical research and education from credible providers that will lead to effective change, preferably in partnership with other funders, government, tertiary institutions and sector representative bodies.  Scholarships will be targeted for high-need students who cannot pay fees.  Sound research can be supported, commissioned and published by the Foundation, based on robust assessment of its need, comprehensive dissemination plans, proven uptake by practitioners and their ability to positively influence their practice.

All applications under this Strategy are made directly to the Foundation via online application.
