Most of New Zealand's unique habitats and biodiversity have already been destroyed and many of those remaining are endangered by development, pollution, pests and competition from introduced species.
Major government and local body efforts are stretched to halt this degradation but many local voluntary groups and schools are active in protecting, restoring and enhancing their local environments and preserving biodiversity. With a little outside input in the form of small donations, support and networking, these groups can expand, become sustainable and achieve much.
The Foundation aims to maintain support for a targeted contestable Fund operated by a credible organisation to provide services to these groups, and encourage greater impact and sustainability of projects through elements like capacity-building and adding local value.
